Why Diversity, Equity & Inclusion?
The ULI Cincinnati District Council is committed to catalyze the advancement of black Americans, indigenous persons, people of color and women in Cincinnati’s real estate industry by increasing the diversity of members, sponsors, leaders, and speakers, and professionals in the industry with the aim to create true belonging and eliminate disparities.
“We have committed to drive the diversity, equity, and inclusion lens through all our programs, our membership, and marketing. We aim to help make our industry representative of the community that we serve. And we invite you to join us. It will be worth your while. It will be worth your engagement.” – Peg Moertl, Principal at Grovedale Consulting and ULI Cincinnati DEI Chair
In 2021, ULI published “10 Principles for Embedding Racial Equity in Real Estate Development” and is engaged in driving action on these Principles throughout the organization and the real estate industry.
The principles focus on racial equity because real estate practices historically played a central role in creating and perpetuating racial injustice, with many indigenous people and people of color still experiencing the impacts today. The history of real estate is embedded within the history of land use in the United States. As an organization created by and representing the real estate industry, ULI has often played an explicit or implicit role in perpetuating inequities. Now, real estate has a responsibility and opportunity to reckon with that history and remedy its legacy of health, economic, and other disparities.
In addition to supporting the 10 Principles, ULI Cincinnati implemented a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Commitment for our region.
ULI Cincinnati is committed to catalyze the advancement of black Americans, indigenous persons, people of color and women in our region’s real estate industry by increasing the diversity of members, sponsors, leaders, speakers, and professionals in the industry with the aim to create true belonging and eliminate disparities. Our DEI Initiative includes a DEI Champion on every ULI Cincinnati Committee to help oversee and implement our continued commitment and actions.
