    Greg Clark, CBE

    Global Urbanist, Innovator and Author

    Greg Clark is a writer, Chair, and advisor on cities, mobility, built environment, urban innovation, sustainability, & place leadership. He is author of 10 books and 100 reports and has worked with 400 cities around the world. Greg is Hon Global Fellow at the Urban Land Institute (ULI). He is former chair of the OECD LEED Forum of Cities and Regions (1996-2016) and former Global Fellow on cities at the Brookings Institution. He has advised the World Bank, European Investment Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, and the HSBC Group on cities, sustainability, and financial innovation. He is a member of the WEF Global Future Council on Cities & Urbanisation, and a member of the Bloomberg NEF Council on Cities. Greg regularly hosts and moderates global gatherings on Cities, Sustainability, Real Estate Investment, and Innovation including the annual conferences of ULI ANREV, INREV, and EPRA, the World Cities Summit in Singapore. Greg has moderated 5 ULI Asia Pacific Summits, 10 ULI Europe Annual Conferences, and 3 gatherings of ULI Global Trustees. He has spoken at events convened by ULI District or National Councils, or Product Councils, in 20 locations world wide. He is expert advisor on the BBC World Service Series, My Perfect City, and co-host of The DNA of Cities podcast.

    Jesper Koll

    Expert Director, Monex Group Inc

    Jesper Koll has been researching and investing in Japan since becoming a resident in 1986. Over the past two decades, Jesper has been consistently recognized as one of the top Japan strategists/economists, having worked as Chief Strategist and Head of Research for U.S. investment banks J.P. Morgan and Merrill Lynch. He currently serves as Expert Director for the Monex Group and the Japan Catalyst Fund (Japan’s 1st retail investor based corpo- rate engagement/activist fund). His analysis and insights have earned him a position on several Japanese government and corporate advisory committees, including Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike’s Advisory Board. In 2022, he was appointed Global Ambassador for Tokyo’s Financial Center initiative. Jesper serves as a member of Board of Governor of OIST, the Okinawa Institute for Science and Technology and is a Founder and Board Director of the Asia Society Japan and heads their Policy Committee. He is one of the few non-Japanese members of the Keizai Doyukai, the Japan Association of Corporate Executives; and serves on the board of several Japan-based start-ups. He has written three books in Japanese and, in 2021, created the acclaimed video/pod-cast series “Japan - Capitalism that works”. Jesper is an economist, angel-investor, patron; and yes, a Japan Optimist.

    Laurent Jacquemin

    Head of Asia-Pacific, AXA IM Real Assets, Japan, AXA IM Alts

    Laurent is currently Head of Asia-Pacific at AXA IM – Real Assets. He is responsible for all operations in the Asia-Pacific region, including overseeing investment, asset management and capital raising activities from the offices in Japan, South Korea and Australia. Laurent is a member of the Real Assets Management Board. Laurent joined AXA IM - Real Assets in 2001 as Corporate Finance Manager in Paris. Between 2006 and 2010 he was Head of Corporate Finance UK, before becoming Global Head of Corporate Finance. He was most recently European Head of Transactions. Laurent began his career at Ernst & Young working in both Paris and Brussels. Laurent has over 23 years of experience in the real estate industry. Laurent graduated with a Master’s degree from EDHEC, a French business school.

    Clint Laurent

    Demographer and Author of '2045 The Growing Demographic Crises' and 'China's Demographic Future', Global Demographics

    Dr Clint Laurent is an authority on interpreting the impact of global demographic change. He has been observing, analysing, forecasting, and interpreting demographics for over 25 years. He founded Global Demographics Ltd in 1996 in Hong Kong (initially as Asian Demographics Ltd). The Company was renamed as Global Demographics in 2000 to reflect subsequent expanded geographical coverage. The Company has developed substantial databases of countries' demographic and socio-economic profiles. The countries covered account for 92% of the world’s population and 96% of its GDP. The databases and forecasts encompass 117 countries, 31 provinces, 353 prefectures, and 2178 counties/cities in China. The Company’s analysis tracks and forecasts the changing nature of populations, labour forces, households and their income and expenditure patterns to 2045 and the implications of that change for each country’s society and economy. Dr Laurent moved to Hong Kong in 1976, initially with Hong Kong University and then as a Director of Price Waterhouse, where he built up a market research and consultancy group. Before founding Global Demographics Ltd, he started Asia Market Intelligence (AMI) in 1985, a market research company now part of Ipsos and then (1992) Asia Studies Ltd, a high-value analysis and reporting firm, now part of Harris Interactive. He then started Asian Demographics Ltd in 1996. Dr Laurent has a PhD in Marketing and Statistics from Bath University in the UK and a Master of Business from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.

    Patrick Kanters

    Chief Investment Officer, Private Investments, Member of the Management Board, APG Asset Management

    Patrick Kanters is Chief Investment Officer Private Investments and Member of the Management Board at APG Asset Management and Chair of the GRESB Foundation Board. Prior to joining APG in 2005, Patrick spent 11 years with ING Real Estate. Based in APG’s Hong Kong office, Patrick is responsible for all the company’s real estate, infrastructure, natural resources and private equity activities and the newly established asset owner partnering initiatives. The client’s investment holdings are concentrated in securities of publicly traded real estate, infrastructure and natural resource companies and selected private entities, funds and co-investments in Europe, the Americas and the Asia Pacific region. Patrick has been a member of the board of Steen & Strom, the leading Scandinavian shopping center investor, operator, and developer, and a member of the Executive Board of the European Public Real Estate Association. In addition, Patrick served as chairman of the Management Board of INREV and was ULI Executive Committee member. He holds a MSc in Real Estate, Project Management & Housing from Delft University of Technology and a post doctorate degree in Real Estate from the University of Amsterdam.

    Thomas Heatherwick

    Founder, Heatherwick Studio

    Thomas Heatherwick is one of the UK’s most prolific designers, whose varied work over two decades is characterised by its originality, inventiveness and humanity. Defying conventional classifications, Thomas founded his studio in 1994 to bring together architecture, urban planning, product design and interiors into a single creative workspace. Working across multiple scales, locations and typologies, Heatherwick Studio has developed into a team of 200 makers and inventors with no signature style. Lead by human experience rather than any fixed dogma, the studio creates emotionally compelling places and objects with the smallest possible climate shadow. From their studios in London and Shanghai, the team is currently working on over 30 projects in ten countries, including the new Changi Airport Terminal 5 with KPF, the new headquarters for Google in London in collaboration with Bjarke Ingels Group and a performing arts centre in Hainan. The studio has also recently completed Azabudai Hills, a six-hectare mixed-use development in the centre of Tokyo; Bay View and Gradient Canopy, Google’s first purpose-built campuses in California; Little Island, a park and performance space on the Hudson River in New York; as well as the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa in Cape Town; and Coal Drops Yard, a major retail district in King’s Cross, London. Thomas’ book, Humanise, was published by Penguin in October 2023.

    Masahiro Yamaguchi

    Co-Founder and CEO, STYLY, Inc.

    Masahiro Yamaguchi is the CEO of STYLY, Inc. and a director of XR Consortium in Japan. After finishing his advanced studies at MIT in his early 30's, Yamaguchi returned to Tokyo and founded Psychic VR Lab Co., Ltd., later known as STYLY, in 2016. Since then, he has played an instrumental role in the XR industry, and generated business collaboration with key industry players, including media, entertainment, real estate and mobile operators. Upholding his passion for transforming lifestyles and driving behavioral changes of humankind, he is committed to building a cultural and economic ecosystem with XR technology.

    Esther An

    Chief Sustainability Officer, City Developments Limited

    A pioneering green building and sustainability advocate for over two decades, Esther has been instrumental in establishing CDL’s leadership in sustainability. It is ranked top real estate company on the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World since 2020. It became the first real estate conglomerate in Southeast Asia to sign the World Green Building Council’s Net Zero Carbon Buildings in February 2021. Named by Reuters as one of 25 trailblazing women leaders in climate 2023, Esther’s pioneering ESG initiatives include publishing the first sustainability report in Singapore in 2008 and issuing the first green bond by a Singaporean company in 2017. The chairperson of the Sustainability Report Advisory Committee in Singapore, she also sits on board the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Supervisory Board, GRESB Foundation Board, and UN PRI Real Estate Advisory Committee. She chairs the World Green Building Council Corporate Advisory Board; the Asia Pacific Real Estate Association’s ESG Committee; and co-chairs the Urban Land Institute Singapore’s Sustainability Product Council. A forerunner in embracing the UN SDGs, Esther was conferred 2018 SDG Pioneer for Green Infrastructure and A Low Carbon Economy by the UN Global Compact. A G20 Empower Advocate in 2022, Esther recognises that youth engagement and female empowerment is crucial for sustainable development. She founded the Women4Green network in 2017 and the Youth4Climate initiative in 2018.

    Yutaro Yotsuzuka

    Representative Corporate Executive Officer, Executive Vice President, Mitsubishi Estate Co., Ltd.

    After graduating from Hitotsubashi University with a degree from the department of commerce, Mr. Yutaro Yotsuzuka joined Mitsubishi Estate Co., Ltd. in 1988. Since joining Mitsubishi Estate Co., Ltd. he has been engaged in finance, overseas business, development of investment properties, public relations, investor relations, and so on. He has served as General Manager of the Accounting Department since April 2013, Group Executive Officer and President of Mitsubishi Estate Asia, Inc. since April 2018, and Executive Managing Officer (in charge of Overseas Business Group Management and Overseas Business Planning Department) since April 2020. He is currently serving as Executive Officer and Executive Vice President, and oversees the Project Development Department, the TOKYO TORCH Business Department, and the Redevelopment Business Department.

    Sarah Whiting

    Dean and Josep Lluís Sert Professor of Architecture, Harvard Graduate School of Design

    Sarah M. Whiting, Dean and Josep Lluís Sert Professor of Architecture, joined the GSD as Dean in July 2019. She is a design principal and co-founder of WW Architecture, and served as the Dean of Rice University’s School of Architecture from 2010 to 2019. Whiting has taught at Princeton University, the University of Kentucky, the Illinois Institute of Technology, and the University of Florida, in addition to Rice and Harvard GSD. She frequently lectures throughout the US and abroad, and regularly serves as a critic of architecture and urban design. Prior to founding WW, Whiting worked with the Office for Metropolitan Architecture in Rotterdam, The Netherlands; Peter Eisenman in New York; and Michael Graves in Princeton, New Jersey. She is an Associate member of the American Institute of Architects. Whiting’s research is broadly interdisciplinary, with the built environment at its core. An expert in architectural theory and urbanism, she has particular interests in architecture’s relationship with politics, economics, and society and how the built environment shapes the nature of public life. Her work has been published in leading journals and collections, and she is the founding editor of Point, a book series aimed at shaping contemporary discussions in architecture and urbanism.

    Jon Tanaka

    Senior Managing Director and Country Head, Japan, Hines

    Mr. Tanaka is Senior Managing Director and Country Head overseeing new business initiatives throughout Japan. He brings more than 25 years of Japan real estate development and investment experience to the firm. Before joining Hines, he was Managing Director, Head of Japan Real Estate and member of the investment committee for Angelo Gordon’s pan-Asia real estate investment team. Previously, he was Managing Director at RREEF Japan. Tanaka is a Global Governing Trustee of the Urban Land Institute (“ULI”) and served as Vice Chairman of ULI Japan. Tanaka earned a B.A. degree in East Asian Studies from Harvard University and an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley. He also attended the Graduate School of Architecture at Kyoto University. He is fluent in Japanese and English.
