The
Freestore Foodbank's mission is to improve lives by eliminating hunger in partnership with the greater Cincinnati community. They accomplish this day in and day out by creating a hunger-free, healthy, and thriving community through the providing of nutritious food, connecting people to support services and offering a pathway from crisis to stability. Do you know that the Foodbank in Cincinnati offers services such as:
- Back on Track
- Birth Certificates and IDs
- Liberty Street Market
- Representatives Payee Program
- Transportation Assistance
What about their Cincinnati COOKS!, Cincinnati COOKS Catering, and LIFT The TriState programs? The Freestore Foodbank does so much more than feed our community and now all of it can be accomplished in a new state-of-the-art facility.
The organization distributes 37.7 million meals annually to low-income individuals and families along with 600+ community partners in 20 counties throughout Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, including food kitchens, homeless shelters, emergency food pantries, social service centers and program site.
Join Freestore Foodbank CEO Kurt Reiber and Tom Powers, executive managing director with Cushman & Wakefield and chairman of the Corwine Foundation, the real estate holding company for the Freestore Foodbank, as they share the details of what went into the decision to build a new 225,000 square foot facility and the process that was undertaken to get to the point of moving into the new building, 3.5 miles from downtown. The facility enables the Freestore Foodbank and Kurt's team to serve more families throughout their 20-county service area by increasing cold storage food capacity, expanding workforce development training space, increasing volunteer opportunities and bringing added efficiencies with more staff located at one site.
The decision to build on this 23-acre lot was intentional, bringing economic support and jobs to the Sedamsville and Delhi neighborhoods. This project took seven years from concept and design to ribbon cutting and utilized minority and women owned business enterprises for 43% of the sub-contractors involved in the new facility.
